Some Valentines Day Updates
Its only right that we wish everyone a happy Valentines Day, seeing as it so closely relates to Leftos. It’s a holiday that we all know was created to sell greeting cards and flowers but we still get into it. It’s a chance to spend some quality time with your “special someone” and lets face it guys–if you don’t do something special for your girl on V-Day, you’re probably gonna be spending some time in the doghouse. We don’t want that. Our advice: do something creative, flowers are boring. So happy Valentines Day to everyone, and guys–Hallmark closes at 6pm.
So a few posts back, we mentioned that we planned to launch around Valentines Day. In that same post, we also noted that things always take longer than expected, which is the reality of a project like Leftos. Our top priority is that we put out a great website that people will enjoy using, and we want to be satisfied with our website before we go live. Obviously we haven’t launched Leftos yet, or else you’d probably be using it instead of reading this blog. The good news, however, is that we’ve made a lot of progress over the past few weeks. Some big pieces have come together and the website is continuously becoming more complete. Here are a few exciting developments that have come about recently…
The Index
The first of our big developments is that we finally finished the work on our index. If you’ve forgotten what our index is or want to learn more about it, check out this post, it explains everything. Creating this foundation for the resource on Leftos was a big task for us, and is perhaps the most important part of our website. We’ve spent countless hours researching, testing, and driving ourselves insane trying to perfect this index. We’re excited to see the response we get from users and to observe how they interact with this aspect of Leftos.
Design
We’ve also made some major progress in our site design. We mentioned in our last post that we finalized our first round of designs. Since then, we’ve gotten those files over to our programmer and he’s plugged it in to our back end. Basically, now our development site looks about 75% finished and has our design incorporated with it. Until now, these pieces (graphic design, web design, and programming) have all been created separately. To see them come together to create our end product was an amazing feeling–a natural high. After almost a year’s worth of work, to see your idea become a reality for the first time is truly surreal. This must be how it feels to watch your son ride a bicycle for the first time, only where your son is a website, and the bicycle…ok, I guess this analogy just stopped making sense, but you get the point. This is a really exciting time for us, and with so many different moving parts, its been so rewarding to watch this machine run for the first time.
Whats Next? So our next 3 designs–our forum pages, forum posts, and index design, are just about finished. Once those are hooked into the site, it will complete the entire Topics section. From there its on to user profiles, the homepage, and the log in/sign up pages.
TechNow09 Update
A couple posts back we wrote about our involvement in TechNow09 as one of five presenting companies that will pitch their business. Since then, there’s been a big change to the event. Tickets to TechNow09 are now FREE, after a minimum $1.00 donation. All proceeds are benefiting the Multiple Sclerosis Society, so for only a couple bucks you can come out and support a good cause. We would love to have you there to cheer us on, and with your help we can make this a really great event. Go get your tickets here.
That’s all for now, even though we’re extremely busy working towards this launch, we’re gonna do our best to post a bit more frequently here, so stay tuned.
